Vitamins are organic compounds the body cannot make in sufficient quantity itself, so they must come from food.
Stored in the body's fat tissue, so they do not need to be eaten daily. Vitamin A (vision, skin) — carrots, mango, leafy greens. Vitamin D (bone health, immune function) — sunlight on skin is the main source; also eggs and fortified foods. Vitamin E (antioxidant) — nuts, seeds, vegetable oils. Vitamin K (blood clotting) — leafy greens.
Not stored in any quantity, so they need regular replenishment. Vitamin C (immune function, iron absorption, collagen) — citrus, amla, guava. B vitamins (energy metabolism, nerve function) — whole grains, pulses, dairy; B12 specifically is found almost only in animal products, which is why long-term vegetarians and vegans are advised to have it checked and supplemented if needed.
